A practical guide to detachment
the action steps + mindset behind choosing YOU

Happy fresh new week, Alchemist! ✨🧚♀️
I’m sure you’ve heard: you get everything you want when you detach...
…okay, but what does that mean?
I remember at the start of my inner exploration and spirituality journey, whenever I heard “it comes when you’re least expecting it,” or “let go, and it will come,” that always brought a transient wave of what felt like peace, but then a few hours later, I’d go right back into the thinking and planning and uncertainty spiral.
But guys: I think I cracked the code. The level of detachment and joyful trust in life we’re all looking for is something that already exists in all of us. So here it is.
I’ve called so much into my life, more than I ever thought was possible, the moment I started Being more and doing less. Sounds counterintuitive, I know. But trust me: when you act from the place of knowing that all is well and everything you desire outside of you already exists within, you’re acting from a place of inspired action rather than fear and scarcity.
The emotions and beliefs you act from reinforce those same emotions and beliefs. When you act out of fear and urgency, that will lead you into more fear and urgency, because it is reinforcing the pattern.
So, take these next few moments with me to ease any urgency, drop your shoulders, and deepen the breath. Let’s tap back into what you already know deep within you: you have the power here.
Before we get into it: If you want ongoing support in releasing old patterns and shifting your self-concept, I have a very exciting announcement!
I'm opening up a Skool community where you'll receive weekly tools and practices to help you stay in alignment, alongside a community of like-minded souls on this journey to grow with.
This will be a space for making alignment a part of your everyday routine. You’ll also be able to connect with me to receive guidance on your personal questions. If you want founding member access, reply "community" and I'll put you on the list to be the first to know when doors open. My current community and this newsletter tribe are the very first to know. I can't wait to connect with you. :))
Step 1: Detachment requires deciding.
You either are on your soul’s path, or you’re not. You either have it, or you don’t. The deciding factor is not anything that exists or happens externally; it is completely internal.YOU are who decides if you’re on the path or not.
One of my favorite examples of this is from years ago, when I was applying to colleges. I was a C-average student, skipping class, grieving my dad who passed away in my freshman year. There was one day, late in my junior year, when I just decided I was going to go to a great college and study neuroscience. My “friends” were doing drugs and dropping out, and I knew if I didn’t get my act together and fast, I could be going down a really scary path.
My teachers thought I was crazy and made that pretty clear. Emma, applying to an elite college? Pfft. You should really apply to some safety schools. There’s always next year.
I get where they were coming from. I was coming from a low-income family, one of the first people in my family to go to college, and was scoring below average on my math and science SATs. The odds didn’t look too great.
I obviously didn’t know it at the time, but this was going to be one of my first quantum leaps. I was so certain that I was going to get there that nothing in my current circumstances mattered. All that mattered was what I did moving forward. I even romanticized the process and felt so much joy writing my essays and studying.
I received many rejections, even from my dream school. But it didn’t matter. Later that April, I received the letter that changed everything: it was a full-ride scholarship to study neuroscience and psychology at an elite college with a 15% acceptance rate. I remember everyone being shocked.
To this day, I truly don’t know how that happened. Someone on the admissions team must have looked past my test scores and felt the heart in my essays. Maybe they wanted more first-generation Americans and wanted a Brazilian in their class. Who knows? All I knew was that it worked.
The universe will rearrange itself to your certainty.
It will reflect whatever you have decided for yourself.
But don’t put too much pressure on yourself here. As said in Step 3 of this letter, certainty is not always constant. There will be days when you forget, when uncertainty or fear returns, but remind yourself that these transient emotional experiences were never the problem. It was always how you responded to them.
This is your role as co-creator. Every single present moment is an opportunity to choose differently. So, reflect on:
What stories am I choosing to tell myself and rehearse?
If I saw every present moment as a new opportunity, how would I choose differently?
Where in my life am I being asked to decide?

Step 2: Detachment requires surrender.
We live in a world that applauds wins but simultaneously shames all of the failures, confusion, shedding, and fear it took to get there. All of it is part of the process.
All of it is sacred, because it all makes up this temporary yet beautiful experience of what it means to be human.
Attachment to an outcome always comes from the analytical mind (aka, if you’re new here, the voice in your head; it’s not actually who you are, and it’s not telling you the full Truth).
As we know, much of the analytical mind is rooted in fear and scarcity, as it evolved to try and keep you safe and socially acceptable. We all have it. However, following your soul’s path usually means stepping outside of those fearful, societally conditioned boundaries and choosing in alignment with the gentle nudges of your heart.
So, surrender means recognizing that the analytical mind may want things to go in a particular way on a particular timeline, but it never has the full picture. Sometimes things not going in a particular timeline can be the greatest gift. Imagine if all of your wildest dreams were given to the fifteen-year-old version of you. Would they know how to handle them?
We can never control the timeline or the outcome. What we can do is come back to this wide-open present moment, however it looks. We can’t spend every waking present moment wishing for another. That’s just a loop that will continue, and the loop ends the moment you realize the voice in your head is not your own. The only thing that exists is what is right now, as in you reading these words. As said by the queen Sade Adu:

Step 3: Detachment requires flow.
Detachment means setting your intentions and letting them go, like releasing a balloon, because the outcome never had anything to do with your self-worth in the first place. You were already more than worthy; you were already whole, and anything in the external world is just extra.
Following your soul’s purpose requires remembering your light, but also honoring your shadow. This is where flow comes in.
I was on a call recently with my community members, and we were talking about how there is this common misconception in the manifestation and spirituality spaces where some emotions are “high-vibrational”, and some are “low-vibrational”, and “low-vibrational” thoughts and emotions are something to fear, and thus avoid, which of course makes them stick even stronger.
Let me offer a different perspective that hopefully will drop your shoulders and deepen your breath: all thoughts and emotions just are. So don’t resist any of it. It will pass through you anyway. We can not control what arises in our experience, or how many times it does. All we can do is:
Notice it, the moment it arises, as a passing state of energy.
Breathe into it. Don’t immediately resist it or try to push it away.
Listen to what it’s telling you. Stress and tension are usually an indicator to move or create. Fear is usually an indicator to breathe deeper and self-soothe by coming back to the body.
Be your own best friend here. “Negative” emotions can actually be a great gift.
There is a flow to life: periods of rest, uncertainty, learning, joy, spontaneity, celebration, wonder.
The resistance and unnecessary suffering arise when the voice of the analytical mind tries to convince you that you should be anything other than exactly what you are. Sometimes the analytical mind isn’t able to see how much of a gift this current present moment is, and is so used to fear and scarcity that it can’t see how close you really are.
So, in practice, detachment is learning not to immediately believe the voice in your head that tries to tell you it is not already done. The moment you separate this current moment from that voice, everything changes.
