1. This is temporary.
Even if it feels like it keeps coming back, even if you feel utterly exhausted by your own mind (which is a feeling my clients and I know all too well), this will end. I promise you.
It’s always okay in the end, and if it’s not okay, it’s not the end.
With this knowledge, how would you show up to this present moment differently? Can you become friends with the present moment, rather than resisting it, bringing the past into it, or worrying about the future?
You might find the peace you’re looking for in a split-second moment where you center your attention on the sounds arising around you, your breath, or a bird flying outside. That means that peace is always with you. Even more than that, it’s not something that goes away, because it is something that you are and can always create.
You can't always see it while actively engaging with the energy of suffering, but the shift you are waiting for is much closer than you think. How do I know this? Because...
2. You’ve already made a massive shift.
You’re here, which means you’ve already opened your mind to the possibility of healing. By making this investment and commitment to yourself, you’ve already started. You’re further than you think you are. I can also bet that you are not even close to who you were just a few months ago.
During my research in perceptual psychology and neuroscience, I've met so many people who are so closed and stuck in their way of being that they would never even consider going to therapy, or watching healing or spirituality content.
Take that spirit along with you throughout this process, and I promise you can completely shift into a new life. Again, even if it feels hard right now, try to see any frustration, anxiety, or fear as simply energy moving through your body.
3. Psychological suffering is a catalyst.
Sometimes, it needs to get this intense to fully awaken you from this state, break free from old conditioning, and move into the next phase of life. If it didn’t hurt as much as it does now, you might not have the energy or motivation to seek change.
This is the essence of alchemy. A caterpillar must completely break down in its chrysalis before it can become a butterfly. In autumn, trees shed every leaf and stand bare through the winter. What's funny is that, to the outside, these trees seem like they are weak and dying, but autumn is actually their strongest season. During this time, they focus on strengthening their roots and expanding beneath the earth, storing energy for the year ahead. So what looks like death is the beginning of a whole new life, one that will grow even bigger than it ever was before.
You might observe that many artists, meaning-driven entrepreneurs, spiritual healers, etc., were inspired by their suffering to change their lives and create a shift in consciousness. This discomfort (even though it feels painful right now) is a signal that you’re ready for change. It's your time to shed old leaves and expand further into the earth. :)
